How Java and Kotlin editing works

DEX is decompiled to Java, including code originally written in Kotlin. Edit that Java or add a Kotlin replacement with the same package and class name. Only modified Java/Kotlin files are compiled; resources and Smali are rebuilt with APKEditor. Decompiled code can need manual fixes before it compiles. Existing signatures are replaced when the APK is rebuilt.

Use a package path, for example com/example/Greeting.kt. A Kotlin replacement should use the same class name as the Java class it replaces.

Build & signing

Rebuilt APKs are signed with a debug key by default. Choose your original key to retain your app’s signing identity.

Workspaces expire after inactivity. Save keeps files on the server for this session; it does not download them.
